What is Co-Management and How Does the Co-Management Process Work?
With the IQ Laser Vision and Mattoli Vision Professionals co-management program, you will have a team of dedicated professionals with you every step of the way.
The co-management program allows Horizon Eye Care & Optical to take over your care once you have had your procedure and you are in a stable condition.
Dr. Fred Mattioli, a board-certified and experienced ophthalmologist, will perform your LASIK or SMILE surgery. After the procedure is complete, Dr. Somji and the team at Horizon Eye Care & Optical can safely and successfully follow you for the rest of your recovery.
This co-management program is designed to make you more comfortable throughout the entire process. We believe co-management is the most successful way to optimize your care.
We offer co-management programs for services including LASIK, SMILE, ICL, cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange, and pterygium removal.
Before you can schedule a procedure, you will need a consultation with IQ Laser Vision.
Unless you have had previous eye surgeries, the consultation is free of charge and usually takes about 2 hours to complete. To get LASIK or SMILE, you will first need to qualify as a candidate for the procedure.
During this consultation, you will get extensive testing and measurements of your eyes to ensure you qualify for laser vision correction and discuss your options with you.
If you're deemed a good candidate after your consultation, you can schedule your procedure right away. After the procedure, you will need to see your surgeon within one to three days.
You will be able to return to Horizon Eye Care & Optical for follow-up care around the one-month mark. After that, you can expect to see us after six months and a year of having your procedure to ensure proper healing and the best results.
What is LASIK, and What Can I Expect During the LASIK Procedure?
LASIK is a popular elective procedure for adults who desire to be less dependent on glasses or contact lenses. LASIK can help correct vision in healthy eyes for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Before the procedure, your LASIK surgeon will give you numbing drops for your eyes. Next, your LASIK surgeon uses a laser to create a thin flap on your cornea and then a different laser to reshape the cornea.
Reshaping the cornea allows for the light entering your eye to be focused directly on the retina, producing a clear image. After they reshape the cornea, they will reposition the cornea flap, and it will heal naturally.
What is SMILE, and What Can I Expect During the SMILE Procedure?
Some patients who cannot have LASIK may be a better fit for the SMILE procedure. SMILE is a state-of-the-art, in-office procedure that only corrects nearsightedness and astigmatism.
Unlike LASIK, during the SMILE procedure, your eye doctor does not create a flap in the cornea. Those who are active or participate in sports have a higher chance of disrupting a flap, so they may be better candidates for SMILE.
Before the procedure, your eye doctor will give you numbing drops for your eyes. Then, your SMILE surgeon will use a laser to create tiny incisions below the surface of your eye in the cornea. Your surgeon will then remove a small amount of your cornea, which corrects your refractive error.
After SMILE, you will need to see your surgeon within three days of your procedure. After this, you will schedule an appointment with your primary eye care provider at the one-month mark to begin co-management.
